Conversion Copywriter
& Product Marketer
Alex Napier Holland
I’m a marketer with a proven ability to sell technology products.
I struggled at school and was later diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. This experience ignited a fire inside me: a desire to prove that I can add value.
I graduated in international relations, trained as a journalist in London and worked for one of the UK’s top press agencies.
I switched to sales in pursuit of a bigger challenge.
First, I sold advertising solutions across Asia and Africa on behalf of the Commonwealth Secretariat. My clients included government ministers and energy company CEOs in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa and remote South Pacific islands.
I was trained to anticipate cultural differences and adapt my behaviors, presentation style and sales tactics in response.
I quickly fell in love with international sales and the challenge of understanding how to connect and empathise with people in distant places.
Age 25 I’d wake up on the sales floor, sell across Africa in the day, train in thai boxing after work, eat dinner then sell across Asia and Australasia at night.
Next, I switched to enterprise software and managed the largest UK sales territory for an American S&P100 technology company.
Industry experts trained me to use behavioral psychology and consultative sales tactics to identify and sell to people with a range of personality types.
Crucially, I learned to map each sales process and win over every champion, blocker and decision maker.
Next, I lead international sales for a UK education technology startup and represented the company at events across America, Asia and Australasia.
Age 30 I owned an apartment in central Cambridge, wore tailored suits and drove a BMW—but I felt trapped.
So I sold everything and flew to Sydney, Australia.
I was determined to build an online business that combined my sales experience, writing skills and belief in the power of technology to improve life on earth.
I knew that another corporate job would make me too comfortable to take risks. So I worked on a building site, studied marketing after work and started to pitch for clients.
I was hired as a copywriter by two of the city’s top performance marketing and design agencies.
A year later I moved to Bali and founded GorillaFlow.
I’ve since worked with 100+ startups and global technology brands while living between Bali, Portugal and the UK.
I collaborate with designers in Figma to close the gap between product marketing, conversion copywriting and design.
My long-term mission is to partner with elite creative professionals and build a conversion-focused design agency for technology companies.
Outside work, I love fitness, adventure sports (especially snowboarding) and electric guitar. I’ve performed on soundtracks for extreme sports events, including the Red Bull BC One breakdance championships.
I feel so grateful to have carved out a career that’s weaponised my creative skills into a force for good—so I can help innovative companies to scale products that improve people’s lives.
But this is only the beginning.
I’ve started to present my tactics and share thoughts about the industry at startup events and on marketing podcasts.
Do you want to work together?
I’d love to hear from you.
